About the McLennan County Reintegration Roundtable
Vision
An inclusive collaboration that promotes public safety through effective reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals.
History
For several years, a task force met with the general goal of helping ex-offenders reintegrate back into society. Information was gathered and different models were reviewed. In January 2012, the McLennan County Reintegration Roundtable Steering Committee held its first meeting. Throughout 2012, the steering committee met regularly and decided on five main priorities. These priorities were then used to create subcommittees which consist of Increasing Employment, Linking Ex-Offenders to Resources and Services, Increasing Public Knowledge, Pre-Release Counseling, and Reducing Recidivism. In January 2013, the first community meeting was held to announce the formation of the Reintegration Roundtable. In February 2013, community members gathered to discuss the needs for improvement and potential solutions for issues surrounding the topic of reintegration of ex-offenders. In 2016, the Roundtable officially fell under the purview of the Heart of Texas region MHMR center, with funding confirmed for the creation of a new program manager position.

Peer Mentorship Program for Ex-Offenders (Early Phase)
The following slideshow is excerpted from a presentation given to the Reintegration Roundtable meeting on April 6, 2016. It details the findings of a research team from Tarleton State University after studying how former offenders in Waco feel about different efforts to help them re-enter society. The team concluded that the most beneficial approach would be to structure a program that would allow former offenders to connect with and support one another. A more detailed version of this report is currently pending.
The Reintegration Roundtable is interested in the implications of this original research, and may be implementing a program based on the team's findings in the future. Updates will be posted here.
